Hi Ricoroark, and thanks for reading! I think that your comment is a bit less about "why racism is bad," and a bit more on the subject of "is racism real," which is a much more basic but still very controversial topic. There are, gosh, LOTS of ways to tell that America still has some work to do on becoming less racist. I think we've come a very long way over the last few decades, but it's hardly a case where we can close the book and call it done. I'm proud of us as a nation for at least having the conversation, though.

That being said, there are quite a lot of people who would really like you to believe that it's not a problem, and therefore whoever thinks it is a problem is actually gunning for you as a (presumably) white person, or at the very least are degenerate rioters, and therefore those people are a threat, or are at least more of a threat than "bad apple" incidents by racist people. It's easy for someone to say "You're not racist, are you? Of course not. Therefore racism isn't a problem and anyone who says it is wants to hurt America and is aligned with rioters." That's a narrative that has gained a lot of traction on certain news and opinion programs in recent years. It's blatant propaganda, but it's certainly popular on networks like FOX and OANN, and on a lot of talk radio.

And with that being said, yes, there is still racism by whites against brown people in America. I looked around for about five minutes this morning, just to see what resources are out there to talk to that subject, and there are quite a lot of stories that pop up on a "does racism exist" Google search that might be worth a read. Oddly enough, I think Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream still has one of the best summaries on the internet. Here it is: https://www.benjerry.com/whats-new/2016/systemic-racism-is-real. Now, I know that it seems a little weird to cite an ice cream company, but I think that's part of the point. The issue is still so prevalent, and so pervasive, that an ice cream company, of all things, is able to come up with this kind of summary more or less on the fly. And that sites is a little old, so here's a more modern take by Business Insider https://www.businessinsider.com/us-systemic-racism-in-charts-graphs-data-2020-6#the-employment-population-ratio-measures-the-share-of-a-demographic-group-that-has-a-job-and-its-been-lower-for-black-people-for-years-1.

Anyway, I applaud you for taking people at face value. It's also certainly true that just because someone is a minority, that doesn't mean they aren't racist too. I think everyone's a little bit racist, but then I grew up in the south and got to hear my fellow white people drop n-bombs on a fairly regular basis while actively discriminating against persons of color. So it's possible my perspective has been tainted as well. Nonetheless, I think that we should be doing everything we can as a country to ensure that we are as inclusive as possible and encourage people to be less racist at every opportunity. I think that if we don't do that, we will inevitably slide back into racist territory, and therefore it's a pretty big component of modern survival. Especially if you're black, and have to deal with the police.
